Exciting new hero revealed for my favorite Warhammer 40K army, hinting at future developments!
It’s only been about a week since the Warhammer 40K Iron Warriors teaser dropped at the end of January’s preview show, but we’re already getting a sneak peek at what’s on the horizon.
After the trailer showcased during the 2026 New Year Warhammer Preview, the Chaos Space Marines are set to receive a powerful addition in Kravek Morne – an Iron Warriors Warsmith who looks like a fortress on legs. Decked out in Cataphractii Terminator armor from the Horus Heresy and sporting enough gear to earn the nickname “Everything But the Kitchen Sink,” he’s a formidable presence. Alongside him comes an Iron Warriors upgrade kit for Warhammer 40K. However, this is just a taste of what the Iron Warriors have in store, and it makes me optimistic that fellow Chaos enthusiasts are in for something special with the upcoming campaign book.
From previous footage, it seems we’re missing a few models that flashed by for just a moment. (They appeared to be a Defiler and Obliterators, but it’s hard to say for certain.) Neither Morne nor the upgrade kit aligns with those designs. So, why keep them under wraps? I have a theory based on another tease that didn’t make it into the preview show – the Ravenwing.
If you’re gearing up to build a force for the current campaign, consider checking out the Chaos Space Marine Combat Patrol or the Dark Angels Combat Patrol. These sets are perfect for smaller games right out of the box or can be expanded into a larger army for full Warhammer 40K battles.
I suspect the next campaign book, following the 500 Worlds (which gave one of our favorite armies a boost) and the pirate-themed Maelstrom, will feature a showdown between Iron Warriors and Ravenwing. Why do I think that? For starters, the Space Marine Ravenwing – the Dark Angel chapter’s vehicle division – was hinted at in a quick flash of their insignia during a trailer leading up to the New Year Preview. Additionally, the model for Ravenwing’s key hero, Sammael, is long overdue for an upgrade. Plus, the current Outrider bike model is a push-fit kit with limited customization options, so a new version with more flexibility would be welcome. When you combine this with the potential updates for the Defiler and Obliterator models, it fits the pattern established by previous campaign books: exciting new troop and character models that enhance existing, outdated miniatures.
So, when can we expect more information? Another preview show is on the calendar for March at AdeptiCon 2026, so I’d wager we’ll get the full scoop then.
