Exciting New Minecraft Theme Park Set to Open in 2027, Featuring a Roller Coaster!
Mojang Studios and Merlin Entertainment are joining forces to create an official Minecraft theme park, aptly named Minecraft World. This exciting announcement was made during the Minecraft Live showcase, revealing plans for the park to open in 2027, integrated with the existing Chessington World of Adventures theme park in Greater London. It will even feature its own roller coaster.
According to a statement from Merlin Entertainment, the development of Minecraft World will cost £50 million (around $70 million) and will include a groundbreaking Minecraft-themed coaster, along with themed retail and dining options, plus a variety of beloved elements and fun experiences from the Minecraft universe.
From the concept art shared in the announcement, it’s clear that Minecraft World is still in the early planning stages. The park is set to be developed in collaboration with a selection of well-known Minecraft creators to ensure an authentic representation of the game’s universe, although specific creators have yet to be named.
“The partnership also extends collaboration with a selection of iconic Minecraft creators to help bring the universe to life in the most authentic way possible for the game’s global community of fans,” stated Torfi Frans Ólafsson, Mojang’s senior creative director of entertainment.
While Minecraft World isn’t the first video game theme park to emerge in recent years—following the likes of PokéPark Kanto in Japan and Super Nintendo World in Orlando—it will be the first official video game theme park to open in the UK.
As a UK resident, I might have preferred a Pokémon or Mario-themed park myself, but I’m sure many fans across the country are excited about this development. Just imagine the traffic on the M25 if this opens around the same time as the second Minecraft movie!
