Experience Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined Now with a Free Demo!
Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined is just around the corner, and you’ll soon get a taste of its opening hours. A free demo will drop on January 7, allowing you to carry over any progress you make into the full game when it launches in February.
This remake revives the classic RPG from 2000, originally titled Dragon Quest 7: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Unlike recent remakes that embraced the HD-2D style, this version opts for a full 3D approach, featuring levels that resemble dioramas and characters that have a charming, toy-like appearance.
The remake will refresh many elements of the original game. Similar to other modern RPGs, like Metaphor: ReFantazio, you’ll be able to defeat weaker enemies in the overworld without triggering turn-based battles. Combat can also be sped up, allowing you to breeze through easier encounters. Additionally, players will have access to a new vocation and the option to take on a second one.
For those who found the original’s lengthy main quest—often exceeding 100 hours—overwhelming, this remake aims to streamline the experience and enhance pacing. Producer Takeshi Ichikawa noted the desire to refine the story for contemporary audiences, acknowledging that even the 3DS version felt lengthy.
You can get a glimpse of what the remake has to offer when the demo launches on January 7. Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined is set to release on February 5, 2026, for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
