Experience Junji Ito’s iconic horror tale in a new vinyl-exclusive audio drama.
In 1997, horror manga creator Junji Ito released *House of the Marionettes*, a chilling collection of short stories. One standout piece, “In Old Records,” tells the tale of a mysterious melody from an unmarked vinyl record that drives listeners to madness. This classic story has now been transformed into a vinyl-exclusive audio drama titled *In Old Records*, featuring performances by Grammy-nominated artist Poppy and renowned voice actor Shoko Nakagawa. This project, launched on Kickstarter by Zero Zero Enterprises, captures the eerie essence of Ito’s narrative, exploring the haunted object theme in a unique way.
The audio drama adaptation has been crafted by Ryan Cady, a writer known for his work in comics and horror, including titles for Marvel and DC. Cady previously teamed up with Poppy on the graphic novel *Genesis 1*. The striking vinyl jacket art is designed by Japanese artist Acky Bright, who brings years of experience collaborating with major brands. Ito himself was actively involved in the creative process, and one version of *In Old Records* features his bloody handprint on the cover.
Poppy, who gained fame as a YouTube star before diving into alternative music, lends her voice to the English version of the story. Her unique vocal style, which spans bubblegum pop, industrial metal, and experimental rock, adds an unsettling atmosphere to *In Old Records*. Shoko Nakagawa, known for her work on *Gurren Lagann* and various popular franchises, performs the Japanese version. Both artists portray Nakayama, the troubled protagonist whose fixation on the unmarked vinyl takes a sinister turn.
The Kickstarter campaign for *In Old Records* is currently underway, aiming to raise $20,000. In addition to early bird and standard vinyl editions, backers can choose from limited Blood Splatter, Ghostly Blue, and Glow in the Dark variants. There are also exclusive versions featuring signatures from Ito and Poppy.
