Explore Video Game Worlds with This Free Browser Game Inspired by GeoGuesser
How well do you know the realm of Baldur’s Gate 3? Test your skills with Game World Guesser, a free browser game that takes inspiration from GeoGuesser and applies it to video game maps.
In GeoGuesser, players are presented with a random Google Street View from anywhere around the globe, and the challenge is to guess the location based on contextual clues. What do the buildings look like? What language appears on the street signs? The closer your guess is to the actual location, the more points you rack up.
Game World Guesser, a newly relaunched version of a game that debuted two years ago, follows a similar concept. Instead of street views, you’re shown a series of screenshots from various video game maps. Your task is to identify which map each image belongs to and pinpoint its location. You have a few attempts to get it right, with feedback on how close you are and whether you’re on the correct map. If you get close enough within three tries, you succeed!
This project just launched this month and currently features a limited number of challenge sets. You can put your knowledge to the test with Rocket League arenas, Valorant maps, and the expansive world of Baldur’s Gate 3. The latter is particularly engaging, given the vastness of the world and its diverse biomes. You’ll need to think carefully about which area showcases giant mushrooms to land in the right vicinity.
While the game has only a few official challenges at the moment, players can suggest Steam games they’d like to see included or create their own challenge sets based on the available content. In addition to the current offerings, you can craft challenges for Old School RuneScape, Counter-Strike 2, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. (If Mario Kart World gets added, I’m definitely going to dominate.)
The site, which just launched, is still in its early stages. The developer has shared a roadmap detailing future features, including sharing options, achievements, ad-free subscriptions, and more, all set to roll out in the coming months.
