Xbox has announced that the highly anticipated Fable reboot will now launch in February 2027, allowing for a more strategic release schedule alongside its other major titles.
In a social media update, the official Xbox account highlighted several significant releases slated for 2026, including Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Control Resonant, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, and Grand Theft Auto 6. Notably, Halo, Gears, and Call of Duty currently lack specific release dates, while Xbox has full control over their timing. Control, a third-party title, also remains without a release date, although Star Wars and GTA 6 are set to launch in October and November, respectively.
“To ensure our game launches align with the holiday season in a way that best serves players, we’re shifting Fable to February 2027 so it can have the spotlight it deserves. We’re thrilled to offer players a fresh look at Fable, along with our entire lineup, during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7.”
This year is shaping up to be an exciting one for Xbox gamers, with a lineup that includes Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Control Resonant, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, and Grand Theft Auto VI.
Fable was first revealed back in 2020, but without a specific release window. Since then, more details have emerged through various Xbox showcases, confirming that it will once again be a third-person action RPG set in the enchanting world of Albion, where players start as a child and evolve into a hero. The game will feature a morality system that influences how characters and the world respond to your actions, with different characters reacting uniquely to your choices. Players can marry, own property, forge friendships and rivalries, and engage in a variety of adventures.
Initially slated for a 2025 release, Fable was later pushed to 2026, then narrowed down to fall 2026. Now, it’s set for February 2027, with a significant reveal planned for the Xbox Showcase on June 7. The game is expected to launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and will be available on Game Pass from day one.
In a recent interview on Xbox’s YouTube channel, Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty discussed the decision to delay Fable, emphasizing the team’s confidence in the game’s progress. “We talked about Forza Horizon 6 and how well the Playground team is doing, and the same goes for Fable. The game is in great shape, and we want to ensure it has its own moment to shine. We’re excited for what’s to come and will showcase plenty during the event.”
