Fallout 76 Boosts Season 2 Excitement with $30 NCR Power Armor Offer

Bethesda is stirring up controversy among the Fallout multiplayer community with the release of the Mojave Bundle for Fallout 76, coinciding with the penultimate episode of Fallout season 2. This $30 DLC pack includes some name tags, a few camp items, and the NCR Ranger Power Armor, which was previously showcased in the last episode. To put it in perspective, that’s half the price of the game when it launched back in 2018.

Longtime players who have weathered the ups and downs of Fallout 76 since its rocky debut are far from impressed. The decision to lock this appealing Power Armor design behind such a steep price tag is compounded by the fact that it’s not available for purchase through the in-game Atomic Shop, where players typically spend their Atoms, the game’s premium currency.

This means that even if you’ve been diligently saving your Atoms through daily and weekly challenges or accumulating them via a $13 monthly Fallout 1st subscription, you’ll still need to fork over an additional $30 to snag this stylish skin. While all seasonal updates for Fallout 76 are free, that doesn’t ease the frustration for many fans.

One player expressed their disbelief on social media, stating, “This is CRAZY. They love making you pay a stupid amount of money for NCR stuff.”

Another player on the Fallout 76 subreddit voiced their concerns, saying, “I can’t stay silent about how aggressively cash-grabby Bethesda has become since Microsoft acquired them. What’s worse is that the game is still riddled with bugs and issues that haven’t been properly addressed. Clearly, Bethesda’s focus isn’t on fixing the game or providing a solid experience anymore – they’re just trying to squeeze every cent out of players.”

As noted by some, you can currently purchase every mainline Fallout game, from the original Fallout all the way to Fallout 4 (and even Fallout 76 itself), for less than the cost of the Mojave Bundle. The lack of a discount for players who have been grinding for Atoms only adds to the frustration.

In the meantime, Fallout 76 is running a week-long free trial and is on sale for just $8. It almost feels like the $30 Power Armor is Bethesda’s way of trying to recoup losses. It’s quite remarkable how they’ve managed to make even Amazon seem generous by comparison, especially considering they just released the first season of Fallout on YouTube for free.
