Fallout Games Surge in Popularity with Season 2 Launch

With the launch of Season 2, the Fallout series is experiencing a resurgence in popularity on Steam, much like it did with the first season. The mobile game Fallout Shelter is also seeing increased interest, likely due to the addition of characters Lucy and The Ghoul from the show. According to SteamDB, player counts for titles like Fallout 76, Fallout 4, and Fallout 3 have surged since the season kicked off in December. Notably, Fallout: New Vegas, which plays a significant role in the new season, boasted around 20,000 concurrent players last weekend, a jump from about 8,000 prior to the show’s debut. Even Fallout 3, which usually sees around 100 concurrent players, has nearly doubled that figure, reaching close to 200. This pattern isn’t new; similar spikes have been observed with other franchises like The Last of Us and Super Mario following their respective adaptations. Additionally, the ongoing Steam Winter Sale, which has slashed prices on many Fallout games, may have contributed to this uptick. While the report focused on Steam and mobile, it’s likely that console players are also diving back into the Fallout universe. As Season 2 continues, with its fourth episode recently aired and four more episodes set to release every Wednesday until February 4, the excitement around the franchise is palpable.
