We’re heading to a fresh location in Fallout season 3, but it’s not entirely new to the franchise.
The ending of Fallout season 2 hints that Coop and Barb planned to travel to Colorado, and when the Ghoul opens Barb’s cryopod, he discovers a postcard stating, “Colorado was a good idea.” The Ghoul then sets off for Colorado himself, seemingly on his way when we last see him.
Interestingly, we’ve visited Colorado before in the Fallout universe. Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel, which features the titular group in a war, is considered semi-canon and takes place partially in Colorado.
That game, however, differs significantly from the main series, as it employs turn-based mechanics and emphasizes tactical gameplay, as the title suggests.
Additionally, the franchise nearly took us to Colorado in another instance. The canceled Fallout 3, known as Van Buren, included the state on its map.
So, while Colorado has a history within the franchise, Fallout season 3 will likely be the first time we truly explore the location in the series. This is thrilling, as it leaves us wondering about the mutated creatures we might encounter and the appearance of Enclave HQ.
Another key point from the finale is that it cleverly avoids making any ending from Fallout: New Vegas canon. “Even when we do games, we discuss, ‘Hey, what existed before, and how do you remain respectful to it?’ We aim to tell the story from the perspective of the people in the world, and sometimes you’ll get conflicting accounts,” Todd Howard shared.
