Fans are overjoyed as a beloved fantasy anime series confirms its long-awaited Season 2 after a decade, calling it the best Christmas news ever.

Fans of Yona of the Dawn had nearly given up on the hope of a second season, but it seems that holiday miracles are real! The beloved fantasy anime series is making a comeback, as the official Twitter account has announced that new episodes are in production. With Mizuho Kusanagi’s manga now complete, the adaptation is finally set to continue.

It’s been over a decade since the first season aired, which brought the early chapters of the popular manga to life in 24 episodes from October 2014 to March 2015. The manga, first serialized in Hana to Yume magazine in 2009, spans 46 collected volumes, yet only eight have been adapted for the screen so far.

“Please say this is real,” one fan exclaimed on Twitter after the announcement. Another added, “I’ll cry if this isn’t true,” while a third fan expressed their excitement: “OMG I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS DAY ALL MY LIFE. I’M SO HAPPY TO BE ABLE TO WITNESS THIS.”

However, not all fans are convinced. One pointed out that this could be a marketing tactic for the manga: “I’m so tired of these advertisements. This is OBVIOUSLY to boost final sales. It will never get full adaptations and it’s also not for demand of the fans… it’s just a glorified advertisement. Especially true for shoujo.”

Set in the fictional kingdom of Kouka, Yona of the Dawn follows Princess Yona as she is forced to flee her sheltered life in the palace after a coup led by one of her oldest friends results in her father’s death. With the help of her loyal bodyguard Hak, the sixteen-year-old must evolve from a naive princess into a fierce warrior, embarking on a quest across Kouka to find the legendary four dragons who can aid her in saving her kingdom.

As we await more information, let’s hope this isn’t just a marketing ploy and that we can finally see the story unfold on screen once more. With 2025 shaping up to be a monumental year for anime and fantasy continuing to capture fans’ hearts, Yona of the Dawn has the potential to become the next big sensation.
