Fans Share Their Reactions to Phranque, the Talking Cube in the New God of War
I’ve never actually played a God of War game. I’ve seen plenty of gameplay, but I’ve never felt the urge to step into the shoes of the big axe-wielding warrior stomping through mythological realms. That might change soon, though, and it’s all thanks to two things: the protagonist, a stunning and powerful magical woman, and Phranque, the talking cube.
As you can imagine, Phranque has captured everyone’s hearts. For many, including myself, he was the standout star of the trailer:
Some folks have even joked about wanting to eat him:
Others are just eager to learn more about him:
Clearly, Phranque is a nod to the Gelatinous Cube from Dungeons & Dragons, a classic enemy that’s been beloved for years. I’m genuinely excited to explore the divine nature of Phranque.
There are those who recognize that the cube is undeniably silly, yet they also love him and believe that more games should embrace this kind of absurdity:
Fans are buzzing about the fact that Phranque is voiced by Jack Quaid, known for his roles as Hughie Campbell in The Boys, Brad in Star Trek: Lower Decks, and Superman in My Adventures with Superman. I can’t help but picture him doing motion capture as a giant cube, which is just hilarious:
So far, I haven’t seen anyone who isn’t thrilled about Phranque, the most charming little character I’ve encountered this year. I’m sure someone will eventually voice their dislike for my gooey friend, but for now, I’m all in on this fantastic upgrade to Atreus. I’m ready for a magical afterlife adventure with the cube by my side. Together, we can take on anything!
