Fans Speculate That Divinity’s Latest Trailer Hints at the Comeback of a Classic Villain
Nearly eight months after Larian revealed their latest installment in the Divinity series with an intense trailer at the Game Awards, a hidden detail has surfaced that hints at what players can expect upon the game’s release.
This discovery comes from a content creator who analyzed the Divinity trailer on their channel. They focused on a behind-the-scenes post shared on LinkedIn by Unit Image, the studio that collaborated with Larian on the cinematic. The new video showcases detailed images and models from the trailer that were previously unseen, and the creator uncovered something intriguing within those close-ups.
They noted that the writing on the crown worn by the tortured old man is actually legible in the behind-the-scenes footage, unlike in the trailer where it was too unclear. After extensive analysis, the creator concluded that the runes likely represent Elder Futhark, the oldest known Germanic runic alphabet. This alphabet consists of 24 runes, and they believe the inscription on the crown can be roughly translated to “khaahs is kommng,” or phonetically, “chaos is coming.”
This revelation is significant within the Divinity universe, as Chaos is a major force of evil in Rivellon, responsible for the creation of hell and demons. Previously, Chaos had been banished by the Council of Seven but attempted to possess a character named Damian to return. While that plan seemed to fail, many speculate that the new game will revolve around Chaos’s resurgence following humanity’s rejection of the gods, as suggested by a scene in the trailer depicting Lucien the Divine (or a character symbolizing him) being burned, representing that rejection.
If this all sounds confusing, don’t worry. The key takeaway is that Chaos is likely on its way back to Rivellon in the new Divinity game, whether players are ready for it or not. As for the release date… that remains a mystery, and it seems we might have to wait a while longer.
