Fans speculate that The Pokémon Company may have hinted at upcoming Switch ports for Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald.

Classic Pokémon remakes, Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen, made their way to the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 as part of the franchise’s 30th anniversary celebrations. Fans eagerly embraced these titles, driven by a wave of nostalgia. Now, there’s growing hope among Pokémon enthusiasts for the arrival of another set of Generation 3 Game Boy Advance classics.

Speculation about Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald being ported to the Switch began circulating last month when a leaker hinted at a potential release in September or October. A dataminer had previously uncovered that both FireRed and LeafGreen were programmed to check for the presence of their Gen 3 counterparts, adding some weight to the rumors.

On Monday morning in Japan, the official Poké Times X account shared a 30-second clip from either Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald featuring Mr. Briney chasing his Wingull, Peeko. Fans quickly noted the striking vibrancy of the colors in the video, sparking discussions about whether this footage was sourced from the anticipated Switch versions.

“The color is way too vibrant. It’s the Ruby Sapphire Switch version, no doubt about it,” one user commented. “The image quality is way too good. So, you must’ve taken this from the Switch port, huh?” another added.

While The Pokémon Company has yet to officially announce or comment on any ports of Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald for the Switch and Switch 2, the surprise release of FireRed and LeafGreen during the 30th anniversary stream suggests that they might opt for a similar approach. If these ports are indeed in the works, they could be revealed just before an immediate launch.
