Filming for Fallout Season 3 Kicks Off with Walton Goggins Ready to Return

After two successful seasons, filming for Fallout season 3 is officially underway, as confirmed by actor Walton Goggins, who portrays The Ghoul and Cooper Howard in the series’ dual timelines. Goggins shared a snapshot on Instagram, showcasing his transformation into the nearly immortal Ghoul and expressing his excitement about being “back in the saddle” for the new season.

His posts offer a glimpse into the extensive makeup process that turns him into a Wasteland mutant, along with some casual shots featuring a pair of dusty cowboy boots and a stylish scorpion belt buckle. While he hasn’t revealed any spoilers, the official Fallout and Kilter Films accounts have shared his photo, confirming that production for season 3 is indeed in progress.

The other main cast members, Ella Purnell, who plays Vault dweller Lucy MacLean, and Aaron Moten, who portrays Maximus from the Brotherhood of Steel, have yet to comment on their roles for the upcoming season. However, fans can expect them to return to continue their narratives in the series.

The renewal of Fallout for a third season was anticipated, as Amazon announced the continuation back in May 2025. The company has also revealed several new cast members, including Aaron Paul, Emily Mortimer, Manny Jacinto, and Thomasin McKenzie, though their specific roles in season 3 remain undisclosed.

Regarding the show’s longevity, Moten previously mentioned that he was pitched a storyline spanning five to six seasons for his character, indicating that season 3 won’t be the end of Fallout.

While a release date for the third season hasn’t been set, the interval between the first and second seasons was under two years, suggesting that fans might see the show return in mid to late 2027.

The adaptation of Fallout on Prime Video has proven to be a successful transition from video game to television, with the first season amassing over 100 million views by October 2024. The series received 17 Emmy nominations during its initial run, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Goggins. The second season was generally well-received, although it faced some criticism for its convoluted storytelling. With Emmy nominations set to be announced soon, it will be interesting to see if Fallout garners more accolades.

As for the direction of season 3, it seems The Ghoul is heading to Colorado, with potential side quests along the way that could shape Lucy and The Ghoul’s journey post-New Vegas.
