Filming of The Batman Part 2 on hold as director Matt Reeves takes a break.

Production on The Batman Part 2 has hit a pause while filming was underway in London. The break comes as director Matt Reeves needs to attend to a family matter, as confirmed by DC Studios.

“Production on The Batman Part 2 has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter,” DC Studios stated. “Matt has the full support of DC Studios, and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.”

The duration of Reeves’ absence and the production halt remains uncertain. Sources indicate that it’s too early to determine if this delay will impact the film’s release date, currently set for February 18, 2028. The film has faced multiple delays, originally slated for an October 2025 release before being pushed back to February 2028. If that date sticks, it will mean nearly six years between the release of The Batman in March 2022 and its sequel.

The first film followed a young Bruce Wayne/Batman, portrayed by Robert Pattinson, as he delved into a series of murders committed by The Riddler, played by Paul Dano. While details about the sequel’s plot remain under wraps, it’s expected to maintain the gritty and grounded tone of its predecessor. Reeves has referred to his Batman films and the spinoff show, The Penguin, as the “Batman Epic Crime Saga.”

The sequel will see the return of Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb/Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth. Barry Keoghan is also rumored to reprise his role as the Joker. Additionally, Sebastian Stan is set to portray Harvey Dent, with Scarlett Johansson reportedly playing Gilda Dent, Harvey’s wife, and Charles Dance possibly taking on the role of Charles Dent, Harvey’s father.

Set photos have sparked speculation about the inclusion of the Court of Owls and the lesser-known villain Anarky in the film. Reeves has previously mentioned that the sequel’s antagonist has “never really been done in a movie before.”

The assembly cut of Man of Tomorrow is complete.
