Final Fantasy 14 Players Speculate on Evercold’s Major Secret
Last weekend, Square Enix hosted the Final Fantasy 14 Fan Fest in Berlin, showcasing several exciting announcements for the upcoming Evercold expansion. The highlight was the introduction of the expansion’s first new job: Bastion. While the second job remains under wraps until the Tokyo Fan Fest in October, keen fans have already pieced together clues that suggest it will be Falconer.
The Final Fantasy 14 community has gathered evidence pointing to Falconer as the second job. Square Enix confirmed that both new jobs in the expansion will be unique to the series, eliminating many familiar options from previous Final Fantasy titles. We also know that the second job will focus on physical ranged DPS. A significant hint came during a panel at the Berlin Fan Fest, where composer Masayoshi Soken played two sound effects related to the new job. The first was a ticking or clicking noise, while the second featured a bird screech followed by slashing sounds, which strongly supports the Falconer theory.
Additionally, the latest trailer for Evercold features a large bird prominently. In the trailer, a pink-haired Miqo’te (the cat-like race in Final Fantasy 14) is seen playing a magical instrument when an armored bird interrupts, seemingly activating some form of magic. The bird appears more playful than hostile, reminiscent of how pets behave when seeking attention. This has led to speculation within the community, particularly on Reddit, that the Falconer job will enable players to command and control the bird during battles, similar to the current Summoner job.
The Miqo’te character also sports thick leather gloves, typical for those who handle large birds. However, the most intriguing aspect is the magical wand they wield alongside the first sound effect Soken shared. Since the new job is categorized as physical rather than magical ranged DPS, it likely won’t cast spells like a Summoner or Black Mage. Fans theorize that the ticking sound could represent the cocking of a crossbow bolt, suggesting that while the job may focus on physical attacks, there could still be some magical elements involved, especially if it involves sending a powerful bird to attack foes.
As speculation continues, the true nature of Evercold’s second job will remain a mystery until Square Enix makes the official announcement at the Tokyo Fan Fest.
Final Fantasy Fan Fest Tokyo is set to take place from October 31 to November 1 at Makuhari Messe in Tokyo.
