Final Fantasy 14’s Yoshi-P hints at potential Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 ports, urging MMO fans to “please wait.”
The highly anticipated launch of Final Fantasy 14 on the Nintendo Switch and/or Switch 2 seems to be on the horizon. Director Naoki Yoshida recently hinted at the possibility of these ports during a fan address, although specific details remain scarce.
Every year around New Year’s, Yoshida engages with player inquiries on the Japanese FF14 servers. During the latest informal session, he reportedly discussed the potential for Square Enix’s beloved MMORPG to land on Nintendo’s handheld consoles, indicating that development for this version is indeed in progress.
When directly asked about a Switch release, Yoshida responded, “As for Switch, please wait while looking forward to it.” This translation comes from a well-known source that specializes in translating Japanese gaming news into English.
That statement seems quite promising, but it’s wise to approach these translations with a bit of caution, as they stem from live interactions. Nonetheless, it certainly appears that a port is in the works, though further details may depend on a timeline set by Nintendo and Square Enix.
If Final Fantasy 14 eventually arrives on Nintendo’s platforms, we can expect a dedicated announcement as part of a broader campaign to generate excitement. Currently, the assumption is that it will be available on both the Switch and Switch 2, but nothing is confirmed yet.
Bringing this expansive game to those devices will be a monumental task. Not only will the in-game elements need careful consideration, but ensuring account synchronization across a different ecosystem will also be crucial. Fortunately, Yoshida and his team have never shied away from a challenge. Stay tuned for updates.
Yoshida was also inspired by mobile RPGs to remove glamour restrictions, noting, “If you look at any of these games, you won’t really see the same restrictions on fashion that FF14 has.”
