In exciting news, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s port for the Nintendo Switch 2 has been officially announced just two weeks after the previous game became available on multiple platforms, and it’s set to launch sooner than expected.

During the recent Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, a brief look at the portable version of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was shared, confirming a release date of June 3, 2026. This comes less than six months after Final Fantasy 7 Remake was released on Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2, with pre-orders now open.

Game director Naoki Hamaguchi has been open about the port’s development, assuring fans that both Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and the upcoming finale will be available on all consoles.

“I have a personal policy to ensure that all versions of my games provide the same gameplay experience,” Hamaguchi stated last month regarding the performance of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on the hybrid handheld. He emphasized that the port will not suffer from significant technical compromises, aiming to prevent any confusion among players about which version to purchase.

The Nintendo Direct also introduced a “Boost function to make combat easier,” reminiscent of the new quality-of-life mode in FF7 Remake that allowed players to deal 9,999 damage with every attack.

As of now, there’s no confirmation on whether Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be available on Xbox consoles simultaneously with the Switch 2 port, but updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

The director of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy had to carefully consider how much content to incorporate from various spin-offs, as the team aimed to create more than just a simple remake.
