Final Fantasy 7 Remake director believes time-saving features could enable busy JRPG fans to complete the game in a single day.
I’m a huge fan of JRPGs and RPGs in general, but I know how tough it can be to fit them into a busy life. The director of the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy understands this challenge and has included features in the latest release of Cloud’s epic journey to help ease the burden.
On Twitter, Naoki Hamaguchi, co-director of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and now the lead on the upcoming entries, expressed gratitude to players for picking up the new versions for Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2. These ports, arriving nearly five years after the original launch on PlayStation 4 and PC, come packed with enhancements and tweaks.
One standout feature is a god mode that grants full HP and MP, allowing players to unleash special moves without restraint. This transforms those challenging boss battles and intense encounters into dazzling displays rather than frustrating hurdles.
Additionally, players can fast-forward cut-scenes, maximizing gameplay time even when schedules are tight. Updates have also rolled out for PlayStation 4, 5, and PC, ensuring that fans on those platforms can enjoy these improvements, building on the enhancements introduced with the PS5 version. Hamaguchi noted that these changes are designed to let players enjoy the game at their own pace, even joking that some might be able to complete the Remake in a single day.
With the ATB gauge always full and the ability to use powerful abilities without worrying about mana or damage, it feels like the adventure through Midgar could turn into a sprint.
I’m tempted to give speedrunning a shot, even as my backlog looms large. Ultimately, the goal is to provide players with a more convenient way to dive into an incredible game. That’s the real treasure here.
As Final Fantasy 7 Remake makes its way to Switch 2, the lead encourages Smash Bros fans who are drawn to Cloud and Sephiroth to check out the game to experience these iconic characters.
