Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and its highly anticipated sequel, has shared that development on the next installment is progressing smoothly, with the team meeting their initial goals on schedule.

In a recent chat, Hamaguchi clarified that the upcoming ports for the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S versions of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth are not slowing down progress on the next game. “We have a dedicated team focused on porting, working separately from the group developing the third installment,” he explained.

“The porting team is highly dedicated and has been fine-tuning those versions with great attention to detail, allowing me to concentrate on the third game.” So, how is that third game shaping up? According to Hamaguchi, it’s going quite well. “Development is moving along very smoothly, and we’re right on track with the milestones we set at the project’s start.”

Most excitingly, he revealed that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is now “playable.” “The game is in a playable state, and we’re currently in the final push, refining and enhancing the experience. Each day brings improvements, and every playthrough reveals something new, which is incredibly thrilling.” That’s significant news.

Hamaguchi concluded, “I believe it won’t be long before we can share some updates with everyone” – and I’m eagerly hoping for a glimpse of the JRPG in action, whether through gameplay or other reveals.

Fans can look forward to more updates on Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3, as the RPG’s director promises “more news” about the series “than ever before” this year.
