With Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth now available on more platforms, the trilogy’s director has promised that we’ll receive more updates about the remade series this year than ever before. Suddenly, the prospect of Final Fantasy 7 Part 3 (Revival? Revenge? Return?) feels much more tangible.
After the announcement of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth for Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S, the director took to social media to celebrate the expansion of the game’s audience. “With the addition of Switch 2 and Xbox, the game will be released as a full multi-platform title,” he tweeted.
“This year, we plan to share more updates on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Project than ever before,” he teased further. “We look forward to celebrating together with even more players around the world.”
While Hamaguchi’s comments are somewhat ambiguous, they could hint at a variety of possibilities, from merchandise to events leading up to the original game’s 30th anniversary next year. However, the announcement of FF7 Part 3 seems the most likely outcome.
FF7 Rebirth was unveiled nearly two years after the previous installment, and we are now approaching two years since Rebirth’s initial release. By the time the port launches in June 2026, it will coincide with the Not-E3 and Summer Game Fest season.
Whenever the finale makes its debut, Hamaguchi has assured fans that the game will maintain its integrity and not differ significantly across platforms.
In a touching tribute, the developers of Final Fantasy 11 honored a 91-year-old grandmother who played the MMO for nearly two decades before her passing, saying, “Thank you for journeying through Vana’diel.”
