Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Part 3, titled Revelation, Set for Release Next Spring

At Summer Game Fest, Square Enix unveiled the highly anticipated third and final installment of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, titled Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. This game is set to launch simultaneously across all platforms in spring 2027.

While the trailer keeps many details under wraps, it showcases some impressive combat mechanics. Players will be able to control Vincent, Cid, Yuffie, Cait Sith, and Tifa, who sports a fantastic new outfit. Naoki Hamaguchi took the stage to reveal that the central theme of Revelation is “resolve,” highlighting the main characters as they prepare for their ultimate showdown.

Joining Hamaguchi was Matt Mercer, the voice of Vincent Valentine, who presented some gameplay footage. Players will navigate the Highwind airship through a vast open world, traveling from Midgard to Wutai. A standout feature allows players to leap from the Highwind and parachute down to the ground, offering a thrilling sense of freedom. This installment marks the first time Vincent is fully playable in the remake trilogy, and he can transform into a formidable monster, working in tandem with Cid, who wields a lance.

The epic remake journey began in 2020 with the first part, originally exclusive to PlayStation 4, later receiving a PS5 upgrade called Intergrade, along with ports to PC, Switch 2, and Xbox this year. The second part, Rebirth, followed in 2024. Both titles have been praised for their thoughtful reimagining of the original, balancing fidelity to key elements while expanding on others and innovating the combat system.

As for Part 3, there’s hope that Square will embrace a more unconventional approach. The previous entries have cleverly engaged with the audience, questioning the very nature of what a remake entails, especially for a classic RPG. With lingering uncertainties about how certain pivotal plot points will unfold, there’s a desire for the finale to dive deep into metatextual territory. Bring on the hooded figures, sky rips, and Zack Fair—let’s see it all!

And by the way, Tifa is making her way into Street Fighter 6. How cool is that?
