Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Director Explains Absence of Full Physical Release

Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, recently shared some intriguing insights about the file size of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation and the necessity for additional downloads with the physical version. It appears that Revelation is set to be one of the largest entries in the franchise.

During a demo at Gamescom, the expansive nature of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation was evident, showcasing every location from Rebirth and beyond. In an interview, Hamaguchi disclosed that while the final file size isn’t confirmed, it’s projected to be around 200GB. This estimate could change as development continues, potentially making the game even larger.

Given that PS5 and Xbox Series X discs can only accommodate about 100GB, even two discs may not suffice for running Revelation entirely from the disc. Consequently, the physical edition will come with just one disc containing partial data, requiring players to download the rest of the game to access it fully.

Hamaguchi acknowledged that some gamers might be disappointed with the physical edition not offering a complete copy of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. However, he emphasized the importance of providing a physical product in an increasingly digital landscape, where physical media is becoming less common, especially on PlayStation.

On a positive note, the required download means players will benefit from any day-one patches or fixes, ensuring they experience Revelation in its optimal state. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is set to launch on April 8, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC.

The journey through the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy is far from over!
