Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Offers Instant Access to Hard Mode Thanks to Abundant End-Game Content
The first two entries in the Final Fantasy VII Remake series made Hard Mode a reward that players could only access after completing the game. However, Final Fantasy VII Revelation takes a different approach by making it available right from the start. Thank the Ancients for that!
“Hard Mode is indeed part of Revelation, but it won’t operate exactly as it did in Remake and Rebirth,” Naoki Hamaguchi shared during TGS 2026. “In Revelation, we’ve reimagined the high-difficulty experience to fit the new game design.”
He elaborated:
Players can select Hard Mode from the very beginning, allowing those who crave tough battles and high-difficulty gameplay to dive into that challenge right away. Unlike Remake and Rebirth, Revelation features a diverse array of end-game content even after the main story is completed. Instead of relying solely on the traditional model of unlocking Hard Mode post-game, we aimed to create an experience where players can enjoy new content and challenges throughout their journey.
In FINAL FANTASY VII REVELATION, we’ve also included Dynamic Mode, similar to FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH, which ensures that battles remain consistently challenging as players progress.
One significant change in Hard Mode from Remake and Rebirth was the restriction on item usage. Hamaguchi noted that this won’t be the case in Revelation, thanks to more complex and strategic interactions within the combat and FITS job system. The Dynamic Mode from Rebirth is also retained, continuously increasing enemy difficulty as players advance, regardless of their power level.
The developers have previously mentioned that the final game in the trilogy will feature a more accessible Platinum Trophy on PlayStation 5. Allowing Hard Mode from the start addresses a major frustration with Final Fantasy VII Remake’s 100 percent completion requirements, which necessitated completing the game twice.
I’m eager to see what new bonus content Hamaguchi and the team have planned to enhance Revelation’s end game without mandating a second playthrough. Additionally, there are already promises of story DLC for the game in the year following its launch.
