Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Sets Release Date and Unveils New Open-World Gameplay Footage
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is set to launch on April 8, 2027, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC. The release date announcement came alongside an exciting new look at the gameplay features of this trilogy-concluding sequel, showcasing its open-world RPG elements.
In this latest preview, players learned they can switch between characters at any time, parachute into nearly any spot on the map from their airship, and utilize Yuffie’s innovative grappling-hook gun to navigate the environment with enhanced verticality. This character-switching mechanic adds depth, as cutscenes will unfold from the perspective of the character currently in play.
Additionally, it was revealed that the previously mentioned “Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear” (FITS) will provide each character with four distinct combat roles, each represented by a unique outfit: Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner. The characters’ fighting styles and abilities will adapt based on their attire, introducing a new layer of strategy to the hybrid real-time combat system of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy.
Exploration won’t be limited to the Highwind; players will also have a dedicated Chocobo companion named Piko. This trusty bird will assist in traversing vast landscapes and will level up, providing support in battles. Fans can also look forward to the return of the beloved card-based mini-game, Queen’s Blood, along with an expanded storyline featuring Red XIII, who was revealed in Rebirth to be a skilled player.
