Final Fantasy 7 Revelation’s Release Date Finally Announced

Square Enix has officially set the release date for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the concluding chapter of the remake trilogy inspired by the classic 1997 RPG. Mark your calendars for April 8, 2027. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg; there’s plenty more to unpack about this final installment.

During a recent State of Play, director Naoki Hamaguchi unveiled the release date alongside an exciting new trailer. Fans were treated to over ten minutes of gameplay footage, showcasing a revamped combat system featuring the new FITS mechanic, which allows characters to utilize abilities linked to their outfits. This system draws parallels to how Final Fantasy X-2 and Lightning Returns integrated traditional jobs with different attire. The Highwind airship will serve as the team’s home base, offering customization options throughout the adventure. A quirky addition to Revelation is the ability to fast-forward through cutscenes, allowing players to experience the story at their own pace, though watching them at double speed can be a bit disorienting.

Players will also have the freedom to switch between party members in the open world, influencing quest approaches. Interactions and minor story elements will vary based on which character is leading the party, and some characters will feature unique quest lines. Fans of the card game Queen’s Blood will be particularly interested in the new saga featuring Red XIII.

Earlier this year, Square Enix revealed the title of the trilogy’s finale during Summer Game Fest, confirming it as Revelation. The reveal trailer provided a glimpse of new systems and characters, including the full party roster, which will feature Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind. Players will navigate the open world using the Highwind airship, exploring both new locations and familiar areas from Remake and Rebirth. Hamaguchi reassured fans that this finale will avoid the content bloat seen in the second game of the trilogy. A trailer showcased during Gamescom Opening Night Live highlighted the formidable Weapons, superbosses that promise some of the toughest battles in the game.

Regarding the trilogy’s conclusion, Hamaguchi stated that the development team remains committed to their original vision and is not altering their plans based on player feedback. While the first two entries have played with the original game’s events, the exact nature of the conclusion remains a mystery. Players are left wondering whether Cloud and his companions will be able to alter their destinies.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is set to launch on April 8, 2027, for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
