Final Fantasy Tactics Introduces New Game Plus Mode After 29 Years, Fans Dive Right In

A surprise update has introduced an exciting new feature to the Final Fantasy Tactics remaster: New Game+. This is something fans have been longing for, and it’s finally here in The Ivalice Chronicles, along with a few other enhancements. Dedicated players are already strategizing on how to leverage this new mode to achieve what has been a long-held dream for many.

On June 17, Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles received update 1.5.0 across consoles and PC. This update includes a menu that clarifies the game’s complex Zodiac Compatibility system, as well as a “remove all equipment” option to streamline gear swapping. Additional features like “Maintain Auto-proceed” and “Ability Incantations Guaranteed” have also been added to facilitate smoother playthroughs and make AFK grinding more manageable. However, the New Game+ feature is what has players buzzing with excitement.

This mode allows players to replay the entire game while keeping all their units and inventory intact. While there’s no new difficulty level and enemy levels in story missions won’t scale with the player, this mode offers dedicated fans a fresh way to grind their characters up to level 100. Final Fantasy Tactics enthusiasts are known for their obsession with min-maxing character stats, often leveling them up, down, and back up again, with consistent stat growth throughout.

New Game+ also opens the door for something previously impossible: farming multiple sets of Genji Armor. This coveted gear is the most powerful in the game, but only one set can be obtained from a single boss fight. With the ability to preserve progress through repeat playthroughs, players can now collect enough Genji Armor to equip their entire party. While this will require a significant time investment across multiple runs, the prospect of achieving this has fans buzzing with anticipation.

“New Game+ was a feature I had been requesting since the very beginning of the remaster project,” said Yasumi Matsuno, the director of the original game. “With so many guest characters, I felt they didn’t have enough chances to shine in a single playthrough. Unfortunately, due to budget and resource constraints, we had to postpone it.”

Matsuno noted that the team received the go-ahead to implement this feature after the remaster surpassed 1 million sales. “Although it took time to bring this feature to life, I am truly delighted that it has finally become a reality,” he expressed. While this update is certainly welcome, fans are likely to remain eager for more. A new difficulty mode, story mission scaling options, and a bonus dungeon would all be fantastic additions to look forward to.
