Final Trailer Released for Upcoming Film from Coraline Studio
Everything we’ve seen from Laika’s upcoming film, Wildwood, has sparked a lot of excitement, and the final trailer only adds to that anticipation. In this latest glimpse, a witch from the woods abducts a young girl’s brother, prompting her to embark on a quest to rescue him. Her adventure leads her into a mystical forest that is both enchanting and perilous, where she encounters bizarre creatures. A fierce clash erupts between woodland warriors and humanoid wolves dressed as British colonial soldiers, creating a visually stunning spectacle.
Laika is renowned for its stop-motion animation, with its most famous work being the 2009 beloved classic, Coraline. The studio has consistently delivered well-received films, following Coraline with ParaNorman (2012), The Boxtrolls (2014), Kubo and the Two Strings (2016), and Missing Link (2019). Wildwood is set to hit theaters on October 23, 2026.
Travis Knight, who previously directed Kubo and the Two Strings, is at the helm of this project. The screenplay, penned by Chris Butler, is adapted from the fantasy novel by Colin Meloy and Carson Ellis. Caleb Deschanel serves as the cinematographer, while Dario Marianelli composes the score.
The cast features Peyton Elizabeth Lee (Andi Mack) as Prue McKeel, the determined teenager on a mission to save her younger brother, Mac. Carey Mulligan takes on the role of Alexandra, the film’s antagonist. The ensemble also includes Jacob Tremblay (Room, Luca), Mahershala Ali, Awkwafina, Angela Bassett, and others.
Development for the film began in September 2011, but production didn’t kick off until a decade later. At 132 minutes, Wildwood will be the longest stop-motion animated film ever created. The film has already made waves online, with its first two trailers racking up a combined 178 million views, marking the largest trailer launch for a stop-motion feature.
Laika is truly taking its biggest leap yet with this project.
