Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Introduces Firearms to the Classic Sword Combat

Tired of the usual swords, spears, and spells in Fire Emblem? Get ready for a twist in Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, where you can wield a gun instead. Marth would be impressed.

The introduction of firearms was one of the standout moments in the latest Nintendo Direct, which offered an in-depth look at this upcoming strategy game for the Nintendo Switch 2. During a segment showcasing the diverse array of weapons available to characters, the familiar arsenal of swords, spears, gauntlets, axes, bows, and magic took an unexpected turn with the inclusion of guns.

While discussing unique weapons players can discover throughout their journey, the narrator revealed “gauntlets that look like firearms” alongside footage of a character named Anatolia in action. The weapon, dubbed the “Salamander,” resembles a pistol and unleashes an energy blast that takes down Anatolia’s Thundercloud Knight foe in a single shot.

In previous Fire Emblem titles, gauntlet-type weapons typically enhance a player’s evasiveness while delivering solid damage. Fortune’s Weave dares to flip the script by asking what if your character could use guns instead of just their fists? Watch out, Advance Wars—Fire Emblem is stepping into your territory.

It’s still unclear if there are additional firearm options or if the Salamander is the sole weapon of its kind. Regardless, the idea of using guns in Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is both amusing and intriguing, and I can’t wait to equip my characters with them.

The latest Direct also unveiled another unexpected feature: elephants. Players can now ride dragons, winged horses, birds, and even elephants, thanks to the introduction of a new advanced character class, the Elephant Rider. A big shoutout to the classic franchise for paving the way for this new adventure in Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave.

Mark your calendars—Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave launches exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on September 17. If you’re even slightly interested in the game, the Nintendo Direct is a must-watch, as it reveals much more than just the addition of firearms.
