Firefox Unveils Fresh Look with Rounded Tabs, New Themes, and Compact Mode
Firefox is set to unveil a fresh look the next time you fire it up — think bubbly aesthetics and vibrant colors. The latest update introduces a design refresh for both desktop and mobile users, featuring rounded tabs, a sleek address bar, and a palette of updated colors, icons, and themes. Now, both versions of the browser will share a unified design language. Mozilla assures users that these changes won’t impact browser performance.
This redesign marks a significant “renewal” for Firefox, following a series of major updates over the past year, such as homepage widgets, Split View, a built-in VPN, and options to manage the browser’s AI features. While Firefox embraces AI, having launched its Smart Window AI mode earlier this year, it’s also stepping up its game to compete with rivals like Chrome. The new rounded UI elements give Firefox a slightly more Chrome-like appearance.
Additionally, the revamp brings enhanced customization options, offering a wider selection of themes and wallpapers. Mozilla teased some of the new theme choices earlier, showcasing a dozen colors, each available in light and dark modes. Alongside the design changes, Firefox 157 reintroduces Compact Mode, a feature that condenses the size of tabs and toolbars to maximize screen space for web content, complete with an auto-compact option for smaller displays.
