First Glimpse: Henry Cavill Brandishes the Highlander Sword in Remake

Henry Cavill is stepping into a fresh role for the upcoming Highlander remake, leaving behind his previous iconic looks. He recently shared a glimpse of his new style on Instagram, showcasing a striking leather trench coat paired with a fur collar—an ensemble that would definitely impress action star Vin Diesel.

“Happy First Look for Highlander!” Cavill expressed. “This has been quite the journey for me, which I’ll share more about when the time is right, but it’s a special moment to be able to share this. I hope you enjoy.”

The Highlander reboot is being helmed by Chad Stahelski, known for his work on the John Wick series, and Cavill has been attached to the project since 2021. The delay in production was partly due to an injury Cavill sustained last year while preparing for the film. Filming has just kicked off, and while details about the plot remain under wraps, the visuals and costume design hint at a style reminiscent of John Wick. Even though Cavill has moved on from his role as Geralt of Rivia, he still wields a massive sword in some of the new images. The photos show him in different settings, suggesting significant travel throughout the film.

The reboot boasts a strong supporting cast, including Russell Crowe, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Dave Bautista, Marisa Abela, and Max Zhang. The screenplay is crafted by Michael Finch, building on earlier drafts by Ryan J. Condal and Kerry Williamson.

The original Highlander film premiered in 1986, featuring Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, an immortal Scottish warrior from the 1500s. Sean Connery played his mentor, Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, while Clancy Brown took on the role of the menacing Kurgan, who pursued MacLeod through 1980s New York. Lambert and Connery returned for the 1991 sequel, and the franchise has since expanded into more films, TV adaptations, and spinoff novels.
