First Glimpse of Vegeta’s Mother for Dragon Ball Fans
Dragon Ball is hitting its 42nd year, but Akira Toriyama’s iconic franchise still has plenty of surprises up its sleeve. One intriguing aspect is that even though Vegeta has become a key character, we haven’t met all of his family members yet. King Vegeta has played a significant role in past storylines, such as in the opening of Dragon Ball Super: Broly, and Vegeta’s brother Tarble made his debut in the OVA Dragon Ball: The Return of Son Goku and Friends! However, Vegeta’s mother has remained a mystery—until now, sort of.
Recent Dragon Ball Super artwork has given fans their first look at Vegeta’s mother, who still lacks a name. The official Dragon Ball site hosted a poll for fans to vote on their favorite Dragon Ball Super manga cover, and volume 19’s cover won. It features Goku walking with his family, with his parents, Bardock and Gine, reflected in a puddle. The back cover showcases Gohan’s family, with Goku and Chi-Chi also mirrored in a puddle. To celebrate the cover’s victory, Dragon Ball Super artist Toyotarou created new artwork depicting Vegeta and his family.
In the reflection, we see King Vegeta, Vegeta, Tarble, and a “mysterious figure obscured by the King’s cape,” as noted by the Dragon Ball site. Given the family theme, this figure is clearly Vegeta’s mother, though we only catch a glimpse of her outfit and the top of her hair, which appears to include some kind of crown.
Toyotarou mentioned in a video discussing the poll results that he faced some challenges with this character’s design. “I think I managed to preserve the secrecy,” he said, teasing the identity of the cape-covered figure. But let’s be real; it’s obviously Vegeta’s mom. The artwork pairs the matriarchs of the families: Chi-Chi with Gine and Videl with Chi-Chi, so it makes sense that Bulma would be alongside Vegeta’s mother.
Very little is known about Vegeta’s mother. She remains unnamed and unseen, aside from the brief glimpse in Toyotarou’s artwork. She was the Queen of the Saiyans until Frieza destroyed Planet Vegeta, nearly wiping out the entire Saiyan race. However, like Jedi after Order 66, Saiyans tend to resurface when the plot calls for it, so who’s to say Vegeta’s mother is truly gone?
The Dragon Ball Super manga has been on hiatus since Akira Toriyama’s passing in 2024. A one-shot was released in 2025, but there’s been no official update on when or if the manga will return. Meanwhile, more Super anime content is on the horizon, including The Galactic Patrol series and a Beerus reboot, both set to premiere this year.
Its focus on adventure—and mini-Goku—captures the essence of the original series.
