First Look: Classic Super Suit Returns in Superman Sequel, Man of Tomorrow
James Gunn’s *Man of Tomorrow* is just around the corner, with filming already in full swing for the sequel to 2025’s *Superman*. Recently, Gunn shared an exciting update for DC fans, giving a detailed glimpse of Lex Luthor (played by Nicholas Hoult) in his iconic Warsuit.
In a social media post from the set of *Man of Tomorrow*, Gunn showcased Luthor’s Warsuit, which stays true to its comic book roots—boasting a vibrant green and purple color scheme and an imposing size. These Warsuits are engineered to provide the tech-savvy villain with strength and durability on par with Superman, a crucial element for the upcoming film.
Gunn had previously hinted at Luthor’s Warsuit during the initial announcement for *Man of Tomorrow*, which included artwork featuring Superman and Lex, illustrated by Jim Lee, the president and chief creative officer of DC Comics.
According to Gunn, *Man of Tomorrow* will explore a narrative where Lex Luthor and Superman must collaborate against a significantly larger threat. This formidable adversary is expected to be the alien Brainiac, portrayed by Lars Eidinger.
“It’s as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie,” Gunn mentioned in an interview last year.
Luthor’s Warsuit first appeared in *Action Comics* #544, released in June 1983. The beloved green-and-purple armor quickly became a staple, even inspiring an action figure in Kenner’s Super Powers Collection the following year, solidifying its status as Lex’s primary anti-Superman technology.
In *Man of Tomorrow*, David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult will reprise their roles, joined by several actors from the previous *Superman* film. This includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., María Gabriela de Faría as the Engineer, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, and Milly Alcock as Supergirl. New faces in the Superman universe include Aaron Pierre as John Stewart/Green Lantern and Adria Arjona, reportedly cast as Maxima. Additionally, Andre Royo, Matthew Lillard, and Sinqua Walls have been cast in undisclosed roles.
*Man of Tomorrow* is set to follow the 2026 releases of *Supergirl* (directed by Craig Gillespie and featuring Milly Alcock) and the body-horror film *Clayface* (directed by James Watkins, written by Mike Flanagan, and starring Tom Rhys Harries). The sequel to *Superman* is scheduled to hit theaters on July 9, 2027.
While Brainiac serves as the primary antagonist in *Man of Tomorrow*, there’s a possibility that Luthor may find himself switching allegiances.
