First Look: Prime Video Unveils New 8-Episode Series Adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie

Stephen King’s *Carrie* marked the beginning of the legendary horror author’s journey when it was published in 1974. Since then, it has been reimagined multiple times, each adaptation placing Carrie White in a fresh context.

The latest take comes from Mike Flanagan, known for *Midnight Mass* and *Doctor Sleep*, with an eight-episode series set to debut on Prime Video this October, bringing Carrie White into the contemporary landscape of America.

In this new adaptation, Carrie White (played by Summer H. Howell) grapples not only with the challenges of fitting in at her high school but also with the pervasive influence of social media. True to her roots from the original novel and earlier adaptations, Carrie is portrayed as a naive and innocent girl stepping into a hostile environment. However, the nature of her tormentors has evolved; while the bullies’ malicious intent remains unchanged, they now employ digital tactics to humiliate her, introducing the concept of cyberbullying, which was absent in previous versions of *Carrie*.

The iconic locker room scene is featured in the first full trailer for the series, but this time, students are seen recording the incident on their phones. This leads to the mean girls creating an Instagram account to further mock Carrie and share the footage.

The cast also includes familiar faces such as Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White, Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Amber Midthunder as Miss Desjardin, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, and Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle. Guest stars include Michael Trucco, Crystal Balint, Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Tim Bagley, and Heather Graham.

Flanagan is no stranger to adapting Stephen King’s works, but this project holds particular significance as *Carrie* was King’s debut novel and remains one of his most recognized stories. While Brian De Palma’s 1976 film featuring Sissy Spacek is often regarded as the definitive adaptation, expectations for Flanagan’s miniseries are understandably high. However, he has a proven track record that suggests he can deliver a compelling retelling.

Fans can look forward to the release of *Carrie*, with all eight episodes available on Prime Video starting October 7.
