First Teaser for Harry Potter TV Reboot Takes Us Back to Hogwarts

Remember when Harry Potter was just an eager 11-year-old, not yet the angsty teen or adult he would become? Back when J.K. Rowling’s name didn’t spark debate and her fanbase was united in excitement? HBO and Warner Bros. are taking us back to those nostalgic days with the first trailer for the upcoming Harry Potter series, a fresh reboot of the beloved wizarding world.

Initially announced in 2021, production kicked off in 2025, with plans for the series to air on HBO over the next decade. This new adaptation will revisit the seven books by J.K. Rowling that were previously brought to life in films featuring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint as the iconic trio: Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The first season, titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, will consist of eight episodes and is set to premiere on December 25, 2026.

The teaser offers a sneak peek at the new cast, showcasing Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout as Harry, Hermione, and Ron, who are just starting their journey at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The portrayal of Harry’s challenging home life and the bullies he faces appears to be more pronounced than in the films, allowing for deeper character development in this longer format.

As the trailer progresses, it shifts to a familiar “Hey, look at these iconic characters!” vibe, featuring glimpses of Albus Dumbledore (John Lithgow), Minerva McGonagall (Janet McTeer), and Severus Snape (Paapa Essiedu), among others. Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid also gets more screen time, guiding Harry to Hogwarts. HBO has been revealing casting details for months, and this announcement brought a host of new names.
