Analogue 3D Limited Edition consoles are on the way, featuring FPGA N64 systems in unreleased “Prototype” colors. Following the last drop with transparent shells inspired by the original Funtastic range, this new wave brings five fresh colorways that scream ’90s nostalgia.
Dubbed the Analogue 3D Prototype Limited Editions, these new models come in transparent Extreme Green, Atomic Purple, Ocean, Ghost, and Glacier. If you want to snag what could be the best retro console for N64 games in these vibrant colors, you’ll need to act fast, as they’ll cost $30 more than the standard version, priced at $299.99.
The new Prototype Analogue 3D range launches on February 9, and if you’re interested in a matching 8Bitdo N64 controller, those will be available at the same time. While I have mixed feelings about these “highly limited” releases, the fact that the standard model is still available means you won’t have to stress about missing out on a special edition.
Analogue claims to have spent over a year perfectly matching the original Prototype colors, and I can confirm that eight-year-old me would have been all over the Atomic Purple version back in the day. These colors are official shades that Nintendo had planned three decades ago but never released, making these systems a tribute to that original vision. I suspect the purple was meant to match the Game Boy Color of the same name that my parents wouldn’t buy for me, while the Ocean and Ghost colors feel like something entirely new.
I do wish Analogue would offer these shells for N64 fans who own the black or white versions, but I understand the appeal of exclusive colorways. Even if you have the standard model, you’re still getting an incredible 4K Nintendo 64 that keeps improving with each update. The latest firmware patch just added support for the Switch Online N64 controller and a host of visual enhancements, like the option to disable interlacing, giving your cartridges a glow-up that the original system simply can’t match (trust me, I’ve tried with an N64 HDMI mod).
Whether you’re eager to grab one of the Prototype colors or just rediscovering the allure of the 4K N64, the Analogue 3D is definitely worth considering if you’re a fan of Nintendo’s classic console. It’s a bit pricey, but it does an outstanding job of revitalizing those early 3D adventures that deserve a modern touch in 2026.
