While Bethesda Game Studios left us feeling a bit let down with the Skyrim port on Switch 2, there’s still hope that the newly announced Oblivion Remastered for Nintendo’s latest console might surprise us.

During the recent Nintendo Direct, Todd Howard made a brief appearance, but unfortunately, there was no news about The Elder Scrolls 6. Instead, he revealed a new port of Oblivion Remastered, alongside announcements for Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on Switch 2.

If you recall the Skyrim port on Switch 2 that launched in December, you might remember the backlash regarding its performance, with players describing it as “running like wet ass” and labeling it a “horrendous” release. It wasn’t a great moment for Bethesda, especially with all the jokes about how many times Skyrim has been re-released. However, Oblivion Remastered could be a different story.

Set to launch later this year, it was announced with a vague “2026” release date, promising revamped visuals and those infamous Oblivion faces we know from the 2025 remake. While we haven’t seen much yet, the snippets shown during the Nintendo Direct looked… decent. The framerate could use some work, and it’s clearly not as polished as the PC version, but I’m always up for a good handheld experience.

Comments on the new trailer reveal that fans are cautiously optimistic. One user stated, “I’m going to wait. After the lazy Skyrim 30 FPS port, I need to see how the game runs.” Another chimed in, “No release date is crazy.” Yet, there are plenty of excited fans eager to dive into Oblivion Remastered on Switch 2 whenever it drops.

Here’s hoping that when it finally arrives, it offers a better experience than Skyrim has so far. I might poke fun at Bethesda, but I’m a huge fan of The Elder Scrolls and will definitely be picking up this port.
