Fortnite announces the release date for its Kingdom Hearts collaboration, and it’s more expansive than anticipated.
Fortnite has seamlessly integrated characters and items from various gaming universes into its Battle Royale island. One of the most eagerly awaited collaborations teased at the start of the current season is with Kingdom Hearts. After some unfortunate delays, the moment has finally arrived. This week, Sora will be joining the lineup of skins in Fortnite, complete with his iconic Keyblade.
Epic Games has transformed Fortnite into a vibrant video game multiverse, especially with the Chapter 7 Season 4 themes centered around gaming and hacking. Although this season has just begun, it’s already making waves in Fortnite history as one of the most memorable, thanks to its thrilling collaborations, engaging items, and nostalgic locations—all driven by a strong focus on gaming culture.
While the Chapter 7 Season 4 Battle Pass may not have featured many video game collaborations, the Item Shop has been brimming with beloved characters like Crash Bandicoot and Spyro. We’re still in the early days of the season, and there are many more gaming icons set to join Fortnite. A recent post from the official Fortnite account on X confirmed that Sora is next on the list.
The teaser provided players with a closer look at Sora and his Keyblade, followed by quotes from other Kingdom Hearts characters, including Roxas, Kairi, and Riku. While this doesn’t guarantee their arrival in Fortnite, it hints that they could also make an appearance in the Item Shop soon. This would be a delightful surprise, as Sora was the only character initially expected from the Kingdom Hearts collaboration.
Although the announcement of Kingdom Hearts cosmetics coming this week might seem a bit vague, an update is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 17. It’s likely that Kingdom Hearts assets will be added to the game files with this patch, making the skins and cosmetic bundles available in the Item Shop once downtime concludes or when the shop resets at 8 p.m. ET.
Epic Games may choose to keep additional details about this collaboration under wraps. Players eager for more information should stay alert for leaks once downtime begins on Thursday.
Fortnite could potentially welcome more Square Enix characters in the future.
