Fortnite Players Can Get Instant Refunds for D4vd Items
Epic Games has announced that players who purchased Fortnite cosmetics and jam tracks associated with David “D4vd” Burke will be able to access “immediate self-service refunds.” This decision comes in light of Burke being charged with first-degree murder last week.
According to the official Fortnite Status X account, these self-service refunds will be available starting Tuesday, April 28. Players who prefer not to wait can currently request refunds through player support channels. Reports indicate that Fortnite players who sought refunds for D4vd-related items as early as September 2025 are now receiving them.
While Epic has not confirmed whether it plans to remove D4vd items from the game entirely or provide an option for players who acquired them through means other than purchase to delete them, the company mentioned that these self-service refunds are just the beginning of “a bunch of changes we’re rolling out over time.” This leaves the door open for potential future actions.
Burke has strong ties to the gaming and anime communities, particularly within Fortnite. He initially gained recognition for creating music for Fortnite montages, and his track “Locked & Loaded” was designated as an official Fortnite anthem by Epic. In-game, players could access D4vd emotes and a pack of cosmetic items, along with two jam tracks. Some of these items were obtainable through participation in the “D4vd Cup” event in 2024. Although the items remain in the game, they have not been available for purchase for some time.
Burke faces charges related to the murder of Celeste Rivas, a minor whose body was discovered decomposing in a vehicle registered to him seven months ago, with whom he is alleged to have had a sexual relationship. He is currently being held in custody without bail, and his attorneys have stated they will defend his innocence.
