Fortnite’s South Park collaboration adds 5-player teams, with potential for a permanent feature if it proves popular.

Epic Games has revealed that five-player teams will be introduced as a limited-time mode in the game, coinciding with the South Park collaboration.

After hinting at the partnership earlier this week, Epic Games confirmed that South Park will make its debut in Fortnite on January 9, 2026. The announcement was accompanied by an animated short featuring the iconic four boys from South Park, who were seen playing the game while leaving Butters out. Butters then transformed into his supervillain persona, Professor Chaos, wielding The Stick of Truth. This moment teleported the five boys into Fortnite, decked out in mech suits, with the Imaginationland balloon taking over the Battle Bus, and in-game items like the Stick of Truth and Cheesy Poofs, along with a new Cartman Land point of interest.

The major highlight, however, was teased in the trailer and confirmed in the description. Fortnite is introducing “Quints,” a five-player team mode alongside the South Park collaboration, likely inspired by the scene of Butters being excluded. The description states, “Channel Cartman, Kenny, Stan, Kyle, and Butters with their Outfits in the Shop and get rewarded with items from the free Born in Chaos Pass! Don’t forget to explore Cartmanland and jump into the new Quints 5-person playlist. Live Friday until February 5.”

Fortnite’s design director explained that the mode was created “because every squad has their ‘Butters.'”

Currently, Quints is a limited-time mode available until next month. When a fan inquired if it could become a permanent feature if successful, the director replied, “Make it successful then we’ll talk.”

This addition brings another layer to the Battle Royale experience, as players will now be divided into five variations of the game mode based on team size, which is further complicated by the Zero Build option and a variety of other modes. While the concept of Quints is appealing, there are concerns about player engagement, but hopefully, that won’t be an issue, as more gameplay options are always welcome.

Fortnite Chapter 7 aims to return the game to its battle royale roots, despite its origins, and one of the leads expressed pride in the team’s achievements.
