Fortnite’s storm is set to take a bizarre turn.

Since the dawn of its existence, Fortnite has challenged players to converge in ever-shrinking areas defined by a swirling storm. The lead-up to the latest chapter introduced a storm shaped like a “7,” but it quickly returned to its familiar circular form. This change appears to be just the start of a broader experiment with Fortnite’s iconic storm mechanic.

For a while now, rumors have circulated, and recently, reliable leakers shared a video showcasing various storm shapes that are reportedly under consideration for the battle royale. Among these are classic geometric forms like triangles, rectangles, and squares, alongside some unusual designs, including one reminiscent of the Star Trek insignia. Interestingly, there’s even a festive shape that resembles a Christmas tree.

Given that the “7” shape was leaked ahead of its introduction, it seems plausible that some of these new shapes will eventually make their way into Fortnite. Chapter 7 has also seen Epic Games adopt a more whimsical approach to core mechanics, such as having players surf onto the island instead of the traditional drop. Reactions have been mixed; while some players have expressed dissatisfaction with the surf mechanic, other significant changes, like self-revives and drivable reboot vans, have added fresh dynamics to the gameplay.

As Fortnite’s storm continues to evolve, it remains uncertain when Epic Games will roll out these new ideas and which ones will ultimately be included. With Winterfest approaching, we may soon discover if that Christmas tree shape is more than just a concept.
