Forza Horizon 6 pushed back to 2027 for PS5 release.

Forza Horizon 6 has quickly established itself as one of the standout titles of the year. Developed by Playground Games, this latest installment in the racing franchise launched on Xbox and PC in May, receiving both critical acclaim and commercial success. After much speculation, it has now been officially confirmed that the PlayStation 5 version of Forza Horizon 6 has been pushed back to 2027, with a new release date set for January 26. Initially, it was expected to arrive sometime in 2026.

This announcement follows Playground Games’ earlier denial of any delays regarding the PS5 port. The studio recently expressed regret on social media for its lack of updates concerning content and fixes.

The Forza Horizon series has quietly risen to become one of the top-selling game franchises in recent years. A report from Alinea Analytics indicates that even before its PlayStation launch, Forza Horizon 6 had already sold over 7.4 million copies, generating approximately $534.3 million in revenue. The game debuted on Windows PC and Xbox Series X on May 19, earning rave reviews.

In 2021, Microsoft announced that Forza Horizon 5 achieved the largest launch in Xbox history, attracting more than 10 million players within its first week. The game also found success on PS5, selling over five million copies in 2025 after its delayed release on that platform.

While PlayStation players won’t have to wait too long for Forza Horizon 6, the exclusivity period for Xbox and PC will extend beyond what was initially promised. When Playground Games first revealed the release timeline, they indicated that the PS5 version would be available in late 2026.

The communication issues surrounding the port have coincided with significant changes within the struggling Xbox division, which has seen thousands of job cuts and the sale of several studios. As part of this shift, Xbox appears to be prioritizing its own platforms over PlayStation. Recently, they released Halo: Campaign Evolved on PlayStation and had plans to do the same with Gears of War: E-Day, but those plans were reportedly scrapped. Given the Forza Horizon series’ immense popularity on PlayStation, it remains uncertain whether future entries will continue to be made available on this competing platform.

Microsoft aims to improve its consistency, suggesting that the wait for Forza Horizon 6 is tied to development challenges.
