Framework Reveals Upcoming Memory Price Increase, More Changes Expected Ahead

Framework, the modular PC company, is once again adjusting the prices of its DDR5 RAM modules as memory costs continue to rise. In a recent update, Framework announced that it will set prices at $10 per GB for 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB modules, with slightly higher rates for 48GB and larger options.

Earlier this month, Framework had already indicated a price increase due to “substantially higher costs” from suppliers and distributors. Following this latest adjustment, the price for the 8GB module has jumped from $60 to $80, the 16GB option has risen from $120 to $160, and the 32GB module has increased from $240 to $320. The 48GB option has seen an even steeper rise, more than doubling from $240 in June 2025 to $620. Additionally, the 64GB (2 x 32GB) and 96GB (2 x 48GB) modules are now priced at $640 and $1,240, respectively.

These price hikes impact the configurable memory options available with Framework’s DIY Edition laptop, as the company is currently not selling standalone DDR5 RAM modules to manage its inventory. To help users avoid these higher costs, Framework suggests ordering the DIY Edition laptop without memory, allowing customers to reuse existing modules or find more affordable alternatives through a link to PCPartPicker provided on their website.

This may not be the last price increase from Framework, as suppliers have indicated that “prices will continue to increase going into early 2026.” Framework has stated, “We have absorbed and continue to absorb some of the price increases to be able to offer this new pricing, but it is very likely we’ll need to adjust module prices again within the next month.” They emphasize that any price increases will solely cover rising costs, with a commitment to lower prices when costs decrease in the future.

The International Data Corporation predicts that the global memory shortage will “persist well into 2027,” as major memory manufacturers like Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix redirect their resources toward the booming AI sector.
