A writer from the Fullmetal Alchemist anime has addressed rumors suggesting that manga creator Hiromu Arakawa was upset about changes made in the adaptation.
“I’ve often heard claims about the 2003 anime adaptation of Fullmetal Alchemist, like ‘it arbitrarily altered the original work’ or ‘it enraged the original author,’ so I’ve documented everything I know about that anime. It’s a bit embarrassing, but if there are those who believe such rumors, I’d appreciate it if you read it,” a fan shared on Twitter.
Sho Aikawa, who penned 30 of the 51 episodes of the anime, responded: “I have read it. To add my perspective, there were specific no-good points from the original author: ‘no flying in the sky with alchemy’ and ‘no putting the protagonist on a motorcycle.’ The editorial team and Square Enix representatives were present at every script meeting, and in some cases, they consulted the original author on the spot.”
If you’re missing Fullmetal Alchemist, there’s good news: a new anime is on the way based on another work by Hiromu Arakawa, titled Daemons of the Shadow Realm. The manga has been ongoing since December 2021 and follows twins Yuru and Asa.
“In a world where certain humans command powerful supernatural duos called Daemons, it is the destiny of ‘the children who sunder day and night’ – twins Yuru and Asa – to rule over these mighty beings,” reads the official synopsis.
“Separated from a young age and unaware of their true heritage, the siblings must battle to reunite, claim their birthright, and save the world…”
This anime is set to premiere on April 4. In the meantime, you can expand your watchlist with our guide to the best anime to check out right now.
