Game developers rush to include Jimothy the viral raccoon in titles like Skyrim and Stardew Valley.
Everyone’s fallen for Jimothy, the beloved raccoon from Seattle. After his rise to fame on social media, this charming trash panda with a distinctive waddle has inspired a wave of memes and fan art. Now, thanks to his dedicated fanbase, Jimothy is set to make his mark in games like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Stardew Valley.
The Jimothy craze took off recently when Kiana Hall, a local resident from Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood, filmed the little guy on one of his strolls. Jimothy’s unique appearance is due to short spine syndrome (SSS), a rare genetic condition that results in a significantly shorter spine. While this condition is more frequently seen in dogs, many animals with SSS can still lead happy lives, as noted by veterinarian Dr. Elyse Macartney.
Thanks to a few talented modders, Jimothy will now have a permanent virtual presence, appearing as wildlife in Skyrim and as a pet or livestock in Stardew Valley.
On Nexusmods, modder triptherift introduced Jimothy to Skyrim at the request of their Discord community. “I made Seattle’s current celebrity mascot for Skyrim. Because I can,” triptherift shared. Just picture pressing E to chat with Jimothy. What might he say? (“I should replace all dragons in Skyrim,” he might quip.)
Players of Stardew Valley can also enjoy Jimothy’s company—though the real raccoon should be admired from a distance—thanks to two mods. Modder SmolHooman created a custom pet version of Jimothy, while another modder, kirbysteaks, made him a purchasable farm animal. This means you could have a whole squad of Jimothys on your farm.
In Stardew Valley, you can buy Jimothy from Marnie.
“Jimothy will mostly bring you trash and seeds, but if you take good care of him, he might surprise you with treasure or an artifact trove,” kirbysteaks explains. “By default, Jimothy lives in barns. If you want him to fit in coops or to adjust the quality of his drops for easier stacking, Extra Animal Configs is recommended.”
When will Jimothy officially appear in a game? Perhaps soon, as Blizzard has already included an in-game tribute to Seattle’s new star in World of Warcraft. Sounds like a perfect chance for a charity pet in WoW…
With Fortnite embracing adorable creatures, it’s only a matter of time before Epic Games jumps on the Jimothy bandwagon. But who could be next? Resident Evil? A Sly Cooper reboot? The possibilities are limitless.
