Game Freak’s action RPG Beast of Reincarnation is a collaborative effort, with the studio teaming up with various partner companies for development.

Game Freak has revealed that a significant portion of the development team for Beast of Reincarnation is outsourced.

Beast of Reincarnation, the latest action RPG from the creators of Pokémon, made its debut at the recent Xbox Developer Direct, showcasing gameplay for the first time. With a combat system reminiscent of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and a world inspired by titles like Nier, it’s clear that this game aims to be far more ambitious than recent Pokémon releases.

In a conversation with an outlet, Kota Furushima, the game director, was asked about the game’s expanded scale and whether it led to a significant increase in the studio’s size. He noted, “The team is quite large, as you can imagine, but I will mention that not all of them are from Game Freak,” adding that they have collaborated with various partner companies to help realize the game’s vision. “We’re fortunate to have many external developers contributing to this project.”

A PR representative further clarified that the core team at Game Freak is “relatively small,” with the majority of the development being handled by external studios. So, if you were concerned that the ambitious nature of Beast of Reincarnation might jeopardize the annual Pokémon franchise, it seems there’s no need for alarm.
