It’s been nearly seven years since Game of Thrones wrapped up with one of the most debated finales in TV history, yet fans continue to discover new elements of the series to appreciate.
While the HBO adaptation is often criticized for surpassing its source material—something many believe led to its decline—this time, fans are celebrating the original contributions to the show that weren’t drawn from George R.R. Martin’s books.
A fan sparked the discussion on Reddit by referencing a scene from season 1 where Robert Baratheon confesses to Cersei Lannister that he can’t recall Lyanna Stark’s appearance, lamenting, “someone took her away from me, and Seven Kingdoms couldn’t fill the hole she left behind.”
Another user highlighted a memorable moment from season 1: “Tywin Lannister butchering that deer, that scene was incredible.”
“Varys and Littlefinger’s exchanges are pretty solid. The chaos is a ladder dialogue between them was really well done,” added another fan.
“Hardhome. Just a brief mention in the books. A chilling showcase of the threat posed by the White Walkers in the show,” noted someone else, referring to a season 5 episode where Jon Snow confronts the terrifying forces of the Night King.
“Can’t believe no one mentioned the Tyrell ladies! Show Margaery and Olenna are far superior to their book versions, and their perspective during those garden scenes was truly special. Their actresses are so talented; they deserved characters that matched their potential,” remarked another fan.

“I really hope the upcoming book captures the same quality as the show. But the way Sansa, Arya, and Bran deal with Littlefinger in the end… chefs kiss, no notes. The weight and complexity of his schemes and betrayal were a delicious plot twist. I remember exactly where I was when I watched that scene unfold,” shared another user.
Other highlights in the thread included Arya and Tywin’s interactions in Harrenhal, Catelyn Stark discussing Jon Snow with Talisa, and Jorah Mormont standing up to Viserys Targaryen.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is currently airing on HBO in the US and Sky/NOW in the UK. Stay updated with the release schedule for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. For more, check out our review for a spoiler-free take on the entire series.
