Game Pass Ultimate Struggles to Gain Momentum in September 2026

Xbox has unveiled the initial lineup of new games for September 2026, and it’s looking a bit sparse. With only one new title exclusive to the Game Pass Ultimate tier arriving in the latter part of summer, and major titles like Cyberpunk 2077 set to depart midway through the month, the offerings are limited.

The standout title for the first half of September is Speedrunners 2: King of Speed, a multiplayer 2D platform racing game that serves as a sequel to a well-received 2016 release. While it’s an exciting addition, it’s also the sole upcoming game that won’t be available on the more affordable Game Pass Premium tier, raising questions about the value for Ultimate subscribers at this time.

Here’s what’s coming to Xbox Game Pass in the first wave for September 2026:

Notable additions include Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage, though both are older titles. Additionally, TCG Card Shop Simulator, which is already part of the service, will see its 1.0 release on September 15, and EA Sports NHL 27 will offer an early access trial starting September 4. Players eager to dive into Aniimo, the new Pokémon-inspired RPG with some questionable AI elements, will receive a free reward pack to enhance their adventures.

Sadly, Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t the only major title leaving on September 15. Dead Cells, Deep Rock Galactic Survivor, Frostpunk 2, Mullet Madjack, and Spiritfarer will also be exiting the service. While subscribers can’t complain too much—August was a standout month for Game Pass—it’s hoped that the latter half of September will bring more excitement. It would be disappointing if the month felt like a lull before Gears of War: E-Days makes its grand entrance in October.
