Gears of War: E-Day Launching This Fall, No PS5 Release Planned

Gears of War: E-Day is set to arrive sooner than anticipated, and it’s confirmed as an Xbox console exclusive. While a dedicated Direct is planned following the Xbox Games Showcase, E-Day made a splash at the showcase with an impressive extended gameplay reveal. The Coalition and Xbox Games Studios have announced that the game will launch on October 6, 2026.

This title serves as a prequel to the original Gears of War, which received a remaster in 2025. Players will once again follow Marcus and Dom from the original trilogy, exploring their survival during the Locust Horde’s initial assault on Emergence Day. Developed in Unreal Engine 5, E-Day is expected to offer a more linear experience compared to Gears 5.

The gameplay footage showcased the series’ signature elements, including intense action, cover-based shooting, and the active reload system fans love. Visually, the characters and environments appear more reminiscent of Earth than in later Gears titles, providing a glimpse into the world of Sera before Emergence Day.

After the gameplay reveal, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma enthusiastically confirmed that E-Day will be an Xbox exclusive upon its October launch. Although there were rumors of exclusivity over the weekend, a PEGI rating mentioning PS5 added to the confusion. However, it’s now clear that Gears of War: E-Day will not be available on PS5.

Gears of War: E-Day is set to launch for PC and Xbox Series X|S on October 6.

The Gears of War franchise is celebrated for its cover-based shooting mechanics, powerful engine, and memorable set pieces. Yet, one particular mechanic has often been overlooked.
