Gears of War: E-Day Set for 2026, Microsoft Confirms to Fans

Gears of War enthusiasts eager for a fresh glimpse of the upcoming prequel, Gears of War: E-Day, might have felt let down by its absence from The Game Awards this year. In response, the official Gears of War social media accounts have reassured fans that E-Day is still on track for a 2026 release. Currently, Gears of War: E-Day is confirmed for Xbox Series X|S and PC, but it’s highly likely to be the second title in the series to make its way to PlayStation 5, especially since Gears of War: Reloaded—a remake of the original—was the first to appear on a Sony console. Cliff Bleszinski, the franchise’s co-creator, has expressed his satisfaction that Gears of War is no longer tied to a single platform. Announced during the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2024, updates on E-Day have been sparse since then.

Just over a year ago, it was revealed that John DiMaggio and Carlos Ferro would reprise their iconic roles as Marcus Fenix and Dominic “Dom” Santiago. This original prequel narrative is set 14 years before the first Gears of War, showcasing Marcus and Dom as young soldiers in the Coalition of Ordered Governments. Their world, Sera, has just begun to experience a fragile peace before the Locust Horde’s devastating emergence on Emergence Day, which threatens humanity’s survival. A new city, Kalona, will play a significant role in the game’s storyline.

In addition to the gaming news, David Leitch, known for directing John Wick and Deadpool 2, is set to helm the live-action Gears of War movie for Netflix. Dave Bautista has been campaigning for years to portray Marcus but has yet to secure the role.
